Synopsis
"I don't know where the time has gone!"
So you need a time log to tell you. These notes help you set one up in either of two simple forms, neither of which will take you all day to operate!
- Clarify why you want a time log
- Decide who will help you
- Agree when you will do it
- Select your categories
- Follow the method (two possible methods are explained)
- Analyse the results.
Method 1 divides the day into 30 minute blocks. You record the task that took most time in each block throughout the day. Method 2 has no pro-forma but notes the time taken for each activity as it is completed. Neither system takes into account short interruptions or each phone call to ensure that logging and analysis do not take more time than they are worth.
